A Framer’s Eye, Outside

Exterior Siding in the Denver Metro, From the Studs Out

Most of our work is basement framing, and owner Jose Urbiola brings 16 years of rough-framing experience. Siding is often nailed through to the studs, so the framing under it matters. Straight, square walls help each row of siding run level and the trim meet cleanly.

Colorado is hard on the outside of a house. Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming usually see the most hailstorms in the country, and UV gets stronger with elevation, with the Denver metro about a mile up. Hail and strong sun both belong in the choice of siding.

Look Behind the Old Siding: Removing the old siding exposes the layer under it, which is the time to check for damage.
Water Has a Way Out: Siding sheds most rain, and the barrier and flashing behind it handle the rest.
Compare the Materials: Siding materials differ in how they handle impact, fading, and upkeep.

Show Us What’s Wearing Out

Point out the walls that bother you, whether that’s cracked boards, loose pieces, or color that has faded. We can walk the outside with you and talk through what a new siding job involves.

Choosing a Siding

What to Weigh Before New Siding

New siding stays on a house for a long time, and the choices behind it are hard to undo once it’s up. These four are worth working through first.
    The Material
Fiber cement, vinyl, and engineered wood differ in price, look, and upkeep.
    HOA Rules
If you have an HOA, check its rules on siding colors and materials.
    What’s Under It
Damaged sheathing or rot may only show once the old siding comes off.
    Color in Strong Sun
Sun fades finishes over time, so ask how each color holds up.

FAQ

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before starting your project.
Still have questions?
Call (720) 641-5080

Is siding your main line of work?

No. Basement framing is the bulk of what we do, and it’s what our Google reviews describe. What carries over is the framing under the siding, which is the work Jose knows. Ask us about your siding project during the estimate.

Which siding material is right for my house?

It depends on your budget, the look you want, your HOA’s rules, and how much upkeep you’re willing to do.

What’s behind the siding?

On a wall built to current code, house wrap or another water-resistive barrier covers the sheathing, and flashing at windows and doors sends water back out. Older houses may have less. Codes expect some water to get past the siding, so those layers need a way to drain it.

Can hail damage siding?

Yes. Depending on the material and the size of the hailstones, siding can crack, dent, or chip. In a state that sees as much hail as Colorado, that’s worth weighing when you choose.

Does the sun matter at Denver’s elevation?

It does. The EPA puts the rise in UV at about 2% for every 1,000 feet of elevation. Over the years, that stronger sun can fade siding and the paint on trim.
