Bare Concrete to Living Space

Finishing an Unfinished Basement, Step by Step

Finishing a basement turns bare foundation walls and a concrete slab into rooms you use every day. The work runs in a set order: framing, then rough-in for electrical, plumbing, and ductwork, then insulation and drywall, then flooring, doors, and trim.

Most of the choices that shape a finished basement get made early. Where the bedroom goes, how big the bathroom is, and how low the soffits hang are all set at the framing. Paint and flooring can change later. Walls are much harder to move.

One Plan, Every Room: Bedrooms, baths, storage, and living areas are planned together from the start.
Planning a Bedroom: A basement bedroom generally needs an emergency escape opening, so plan it early.
Storage Planned In: Closets and under-stair nooks fit best when they are framed with the rooms.

Start With the Rooms You Want

Name each room and what it’s for, whether that’s a guest room, an office, or a place for the kids. We can look at the space with you and work out what fits where.
